Southern California, in typical November fashion, is over 90 degrees and windy. Los Angeles has at least two major fires storming through, with another in the Santa Barbara area. So far, the firebugs have left San Diego alone, but that weird wired feeling that comes with the Santa Ana winds makes it hard to relax.
The boys played a rough soccer game this morning, winning a yellow card and a completely undeserved red card, while the other team was allowed to slide tackle our goalie with no consequences. This is the 3rd time they’ve played this almost-undefeated team, and they rocked. But they lost. The boychild stormed off the field at the end, showing some normal teenage-boy testosterone with his comments about body-slamming the other team.
They have one more game and will be in either 3rd or 4th place, which is much better than last place, where they were a few weeks ago. We’ll see if the player who was red-carded will be allowed to play next week. It seems strange to red card a kid who was leaping OVER two other players on the ground to try to avoid them. But hey. The referees are volunteers and some of them suck.
I am trying to finish up all my work today (ha!) so I can help the girlchild with some Xmas sewing tomorrow. She picked out these fabrics, which may or may not actually go together (although it probably doesn’t matter, and what the heck do I know about how fabrics go together??? Don’t answer that).
The coming week is full of school responsibilities. I foresee grinding teeth and a glass of wine on Thursday night, if not sooner. I have some small crazy quilted ornaments I’m working on in the evenings. Started them last year, so that tells you how invested I am in them being done in any particular year.
One of the things that usually drives me crazy about Xmas stuff is the limited color range. But I limit myself if I’m working on a block too, so I don’t know what my problem is. I don’t have enough darker or hand-dyed greens, so that frustrates me. Anyway, these are almost done, and then I’ll have to do the finishing, which is of course what usually stops me completely in my tracks. Oh well. It is still November. And I need to be sure there are a bunch of unfinished projects for my daughter to drive her insane after I die. Because I still have my grandmother’s unfinished projects, and my mom gave me a tour of hers last week. I must carry on that family tradition.
