Watching the news, they call a mandatory evacuation for Rancho San Diego, the community just south of me. What the heck? Mandatory?! I start calling around, get confirmation that there is an evacuation, start packing clothes and medications and papers. Call mom, mom calls back, says her neighborhood is supposed to get a call (it’s by zip code, apparently, not logic), so she’s coming to me. I’m packing clothes and one of the kids starts yelling, then the other…they just reversed the evacuation order, it was a mistake.
Excuse my heart attack. Deep breaths. Might as well stay packed for a while. Mom helped me make an evacuation list, but understand…I have 3 cats, one on IV fluids, 1 hyper puppy, a toad, and a fish that my daughter is supremely attached to. I have about 40 quilts and god-knows-how-much art, mine and others. Knowing what to take…how much can fit in the car…not much. Two kids…they have to fit in the car.
Here’s the NASA picture of Southern California…

awesome…and not in a good way.
We’re OK! We’re not evacuating! (yet)

Scary stuff! Thinking of you (which now that I think about it, sounds kind of creepy coming from a total stranger) and hope you and your family continue to be safe.
